Scoop It Up for July Ice Cream Month: 90 Percent of Americans Eat Ice Cream Regularly

Ice CreamSummer is in full gear and temperatures are on the rise, what better way to cool off than with California ice cream?

California is the nation’s number one ice cream producer, churning out over 142 million gallons of ice-cold creamy goodness each year.

In honor of July Ice Cream Month, the California Milk Advisory Board (CMAB), representing California’s more than 1600 dairy families, surveyed consumers to find out just where they find themselves enjoying some good-old fashion ice cream, frozen yogurt and gelato.

Key survey results include:

Over two-thirds of consumers nationwide say they find themselves eating ice cream, frozen yogurt or gelato most frequently in front of the TV or on the couch (64%).  Read more...

Dairy Queen employees also will be collecting donations for Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) with the goal of raising one million dollars. CMN is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for 170 hospitals for children throughout North America. Carvel Breaks Guinness World Record for Largest Ice Cream Scoop PyramidNew Record Shatters Previous By 794 Scoops

Carvel Corporation, the nation’s first retail ice cream chain, today broke the Guinness World Record for the largest ice cream pyramid, live on the CBS Early Show.

Built in 58 minutes, the pyramid was comprised of 3,894 scoops of Carvel’s creamy vanilla ice cream, totaling 22 layers and weighing in at 1,005 pounds.

278 gallons of ice cream were used to build the 53 inches tall pyramid. The 3,894 scoops totaled 778,800 calories, 38,940 fat grams, and exceeded the recommended daily calcium allowance by 58,305%. The towering structure was built with the help of 28 Carvel employees alternating between the jobs of scooper, placer and runner.  Read more...
