Taylor Farms Cyclospora Recall: A Timeline of the Full Story So Far

Questions continue to arise about the Taylor Farms Cyclospora recall. For the most dependable answers, Taylor Farms directs people to its Cyclospora Information Hub, which it updates as information is released, and to its Recall Page for current active-recall information.

Instead of revisiting the headlines, the company’s published timeline provides a clearer view of how the matter developed.

Tracing the Development of the Taylor Farms Recall

July 15, 2026: Taylor Farms received traceback and epidemiological information from the FDA and CDC indicating that specific central Mexico iceberg lettuce lots could be associated with a Cyclospora cluster across five states. The Cyclospora Information Hub says the company spoke that day with the FDA, CDC, and Michigan health officials, questioning the science, data, and methodology behind the information.

Those discussions continued on July 16, 2026, with government representatives that included personnel from the FDA, HHS, and the White House. Taylor Farms then chose to voluntarily recall every iceberg lettuce product sourced from and processed through its central Mexico facility, not solely the lots identified by the FDA. The company described the expanded action as being taken "out of an abundance of caution," and began informing customers that day.

On July 17, 2026, Taylor Farms announced the voluntary recall publicly and began its own internal investigation. This is the date generally identified as the beginning of the Taylor Farms Cyclospora recall.

The FDA notified Taylor Farms on July 18, 2026 of a preliminary "confirmed positive" result involving a central Mexico Taylor Farms lettuce sample. According to the Hub, the product in question had been held for testing and never entered distribution. Other products from that same lot had already been included in the recall. As an added precaution, Taylor Farms also stopped all production at its central Mexico facility that day.

By July 19, 2026, independent third-party specialists had been dispatched to conduct a comprehensive assessment of food safety practices at the facility. The FDA also told Taylor Farms that the positive test result reported the previous day was actually a false positive.

The Current Status of the Situation

The Cyclospora Information Hub now includes a newer testing update. As of August 27, 2026, the FDA has reported zero confirmed Cyclospora-positive product test results.

Taylor Farms says its own testing has produced the same outcome: approximately 2,000 samples collected in central Mexico since May have shown no positive results. For the balance of the growing season, the company has halted all central Mexico iceberg lettuce sourcing and is obtaining leafy greens from the United States and Canada.

The company says it spends over $200 million each year on independently audited and verified food safety procedures. It also states that any choice to restart sourcing from central Mexico will depend on conclusions from the ongoing FDA investigation and third-party review.

The recall is limited to iceberg lettuce from the central Mexico facility and was distributed mainly through foodservice channels. The Hub states that only a limited number of Marketside products sold at Walmart were affected at retail, and all have been removed from store shelves. Products without a "Product of Mexico" label were not included in the recall.

A Different Recall Reported More Recently

Taylor Farms is also associated with another, unrelated recall involving jalapeños supplied by Coast Citrus Distributors, according to the Hub. It is not connected to the Cyclospora matter.

The Taylor Farms Recall Page carries the latest details about that jalapeño recall as well as any other active recalls.
