"World's Cheesiest Car" was The American Dairy Association (ADA) unveiled the first ever to-scale car made entirely out of cheese at Richmond International Raceway. The "World's Cheesiest Car," an authentic replica of Terry Labonte's #5 Chevrolet, was carved from 3,500 pounds of yellow Cheddar cheese provided by Cabot Creamery. The carving is the first of its kind, weighing nearly 3,000 pounds and standing 5 feet tall, 12 feet long and 6 feet wide. The ADA commissioned the carving of the life-size cheese car by Jim Victor to support Labonte and launch the debut of the primary cheese paint scheme on the #5 Kellogg's/got milk? car running during the Pontiac Excitement 400.
Jim Victor is a sculptor with more than 30 years experience as an artist and teacher. His sculptures have been featured in the New York Times, Philadelphia Magazine, Der Spiegel and others. Among his many commissions are various food sculptures, including butter sculptures for several state fairs, and chocolate sculptures commemorating entertainment personalities including Mickey Rooney, Anne Miller, Robin Williams, Mayor William Green and others. "I am used to sculpting large objects out of butter, chocolate and cheese -- such as celebrities and farm-related figures -- but I've never carved a race car," said Jim Victor, professional sculptor. "I am a huge NASCAR fan and a cheese lover so the opportunity to create a to-scale replica of Terry's car out of Cheddar was such a thrill for me."
Cabot Creamery Cooperative has been in continuous operation in Vermont since 1919 and makes a full line of cheeses, yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese and butter.
